Insight Into the Pain Points
Identifying Issues, Precisely Solving
During our collaboration with Airgain's product manager, the customer highlighted several inconveniences faced by workers when installing outdoor antennas and expressed a desire for Gemtek's ID Team to come up with an innovative design solution. To address this need, we conducted field research and in-depth interviews, carefully observing and analyzing each step of the installation process to fully understand the challenges faced by the installers.
In simulating actual operations, we discovered that it was very inconvenient to check mobile signal software while holding devices, and power cables for portable chargers were often temporarily placed in pockets or bags on the chest. This resulted in the cables getting tugged during movement or climbing, reducing operational efficiency and increasing frustration. To address these core pain points, we designed a solution combining a quick-release structure with a stable bracket, which not only simplified the installation process significantly but also improved the workers' operational flexibility in complex environments.
Every design detail was driven by a deep understanding of on-site needs, achieving a comprehensive feedback loop from issue identification to resolution. This solution delivers genuine value and convenience to users, enhancing the installation experience in an innovative way.

Customer Journey Mapping
Deconstructing the Operational Stage
By analyzing the operational scenario of the outdoor 5G CPE through the Customer Journey Map (CJM), I identified the difficulties and pain points users face when holding the device with both hands to locate a signal. One key issue was the inconvenience caused by separate handling of the power bank and the phone, which increased operational complexity. This led us to a design solution: integrating the power bank and phone into the device, reducing the user’s burden and enhancing operational efficiency and convenience.

Design Process
Where every trade-off sharpens the final design.
From cardboard box to transparent bag to an integrated phone holder with quick-release — each iteration stripped away what didn't work and sharpened what did. The design didn't arrive — it was earned. Through multiple rounds of divergent exploration, structural testing, and continuous negotiation between aesthetics, structure, usability, and cost, the design evolved toward its optimal form. Every compromise led to a better question; every question led to a stronger solution.

Proof of Concept
Verification
Using 3D-printed mockups and rubber nets, we verified the dimensions and stability of the mounting kit, explored silicone hardness and adhesion, and optimized snap-fit structures for installation and removal.

Worked closely with mechanical engineers to adjust assembly clearances and fine-tune snap-fit tension in real time.

Worked with suppliers to produce numerous prototypes, exploring different rubber durometers and adhesion properties alongside variations in net dimensions and geometry, to ensure a firm and reliable mount for the phone and power bank.
